Nothing beats the buzz of seeing your work come to life on a printing press, and I am very pleased to be able to offer workshops again. These are a great opportunity to have some fun and get creative. Please scroll down to see current courses, and drop me an email via the contact page if you would like to book a space on a workshop.
Come and get some ink on your hands!
INTRODUCTION TO LETTERPRESS PRINTING (ONE DAY)
£100 per person (INCLUDING MATERIALS)
If you're new to letterpress printing, the one-day introductory workshop is a great place to start. This is a hands-on day and you will experience the process of composition (hand-setting, spacing and locking up type) using a selection of wood or metal type. You'll learn how to mix ink to a colour of your choice, how to ink your press, and 'make-ready' to ensure you get the best possible impression from your type. You'll leave the studio with some printed goodies – perhaps some posters or greetings cards – along with a firm understanding of both the possibilities and limitations of letterpress printing, and hopefully a new-found enthusiasm for the craft.
INTRODUCTION TO LETTERPRESS PRINTING (TWO DAYS)
£190 per person (INCLUDING MATERIALS)
Learning through a series of 'projects', this two-day course covers everything covered on the one-day course, but with a stronger focus on typography and graphic design. You will learn how to design and print using more than one colour, and to consider how choice of paper or card affects the final outcome. You will also be introduced to printing from photopolymer plates (please see questions for more information), and learn how techniques such as 'blind embossing and debossing' can be brought into your design.
BESPOKE LETTERPRESS PRINTING PROJECT DAY
PLEASE CONTACT FOR A QUOTATION
Suitable for those with no previous experience of letterpress printing, but with a specific project in mind. Perhaps you'd like to design and print your own wedding invitations or business stationery, or maybe you are a small producer looking to print your own packaging or labels. You'll be guided through the process from start to finish, and have the pleasure of bringing your own creation to life in ink.
